AFCON 2017
The wait is finally over and the 31st edition of the AFCON kicks off tomorrow in Gabon. Victor Muisyo gives us a lowdown on the pre-event preparations.
It’s now official. As from 2026, the FIFA world cup will pit 48 countries. This was after the Fifa’s ruling council unanimously approved the expansion earlier this week, an indication that the global game is growing, keeping in mind that the first World Cup in Uruguay in 1930 comprised of just 13 countries. Victor has more on that.
And on the third slot of the chronique reserved for the whacky weird world of sports. Last week we spoke about Witchcraft in Rwandan football and today Victor will introduce you to a sport you probably didn’t know existed; the Wife Carrying Championship.
In this sport couples put their relationship ― and their muscles ― to the test by running through an obstacle course that includes log hurdles, sand traps and mud. Lots and lots of mud. Now as the event title implies, the man has to carry his beloved through the whole 278-yard course.
The couple with the fastest time wins fame, glory, the woman’s weight in beer and an amount of cash equal to five times her weight.
